Inconel X750® Properties

The nickel chromium alloy with precipitation hardenable attributes from the addition of aluminum and titanium gives Inconel X750® various physical constants and thermal properties. The structure of high strength, with top corrosion resistance and high temperature endurance, provides a good melting range and magnetic permeability. The thermal properties with temperatures from -250°F to 1,800°F include a mean linear expansion of 6.5 to 9.8, thermal conductivity of 67 to 164, specific heat of 0.073 to 0.171, diffusivity of 0.150 to 0.164, and electrical resistivity of 731 to 761. Additional physical constants include:
  • Density: 0.299 lb/in cubed or 8.28 g/cm cubed
  • Melting Range: 2540-2600°F or 1393-1427°C
  • Curie Temperature °F: -225 hot rolled, 1500 triple heat treated
  • Magnetic Permeability: 1.0020 hot rolled, 1500 triple heat treated
  • Emissivity: 0.895 for 600°F or 0.925 for 2000°F
  • Linear Contraction during Precipitation Treatment: 0.00044 hot rolled, 0.00052 cold rolled, 0.00026 annealed

Alloy X750® Mechanical Properties

Inconel alloy X750® provides numerous mechanical properties with the composition of the material, mainly through the use of heat treating. Depending on the form and treatment, many different tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness factors are prevalent. The mechanical properties of Inconel X750® include:
  • Tensile Strength: 170,000-206,000 psi (hot-finished + 1300°F/20 hr,A.C.), 162,000-193,000 psi (hot-finished + annealed), 160,000-188,000 psi (hot-finished + 1625°F), 160,000-197,000 psi (cold-rolled and annealed)
  • Yield Strength: 120,000-163,000 psi (hot-finished + 1300°F/20 hr,A.C.), 115,000-142,000 psi (hot-finished + annealed), 100,000-135,000 psi (hot-finished + 1625°F), 105,000-150,000 psi (cold-rolled + annealed)
  • Elongation in 2”: 25-15 (hot-finished + 1300°F/20 hr,A.C.), 30-15 (hot-finished + annealed), 30-15 (hot-finished + 1625°F), 30-20 (cold-rolled + annealed)
  • Brinell Hardness: 313-400 (hot-finished + 1300°F/20 hr,A.C.), 300-390 (hot-finished + annealed), 302-363 (hot-finished + 1625°F), 300-400 (cold-rolled + annealed)

Inconel X750® Workability

With the various mechanical properties and chemical composition, Inconel has various workability factors through machine processes compared to other Inconel metals. The excellent strength and top corrosion resistance cause Inconel X750® to provide difficulty in machining through work hardening, but it maintains a high machinability rating. Alloy X750® is most easily machined in a stress-equalized condition with tools that are sharp, rigid, and have smooth finishes with a continuous cutting action. Welding Inconel X750® should be welded in the solution-treated condition and age hardened after welding is completed. Heat treatment up to 1625°F should be utilized. Forming is fair to good in the solution annealed condition and forging can be performed using techniques common in the industry.

Corrosion Resistance for Alloy X750®

Alloy X750® exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, especially in oxidizing environments. The alloy is similar to Alloy 600 in corrosion and oxidation resistance. Through the endurance in numerous oxidizing environments, this makes Inconel X750® suitable for many applications, including gas turbine rotors, rocket engine components, thrust reversers, nuclear reactors, pressure vessels, forming tools, heat-treating fixtures, cryogenic vessels, and other applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance.
