Monel 400® is a high performance, high strength alloy of nickel and copper (with trace amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon content). It exhibits excellent resistance to acids and alkalis, good ductility, and good thermal conductivity, and can hardened only by cold-working. Monel 400® is suitable for applications with working temperatures ranging from subzero to 1,000°F (538°C). Monel 400® is unique among the Monel® alloy family in that it contains the same percentages of nickel and copper as naturally-occurring nickel ore extracted from the Sudbury mines in Ontario, Canada, making it a “puritan alloy.”
