Monel 400® is a binary alloy of nickel and copper (with trace amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon). This alloy exhibits high strength, high resistance to acidic and alkaline environments, and good ductility and thermal conductivity. Monel 400® is suitable for use in temps from subzero to 1,000°F (538°C). It can be hardened only by cold-working.
Monel 400® contains the same nickel and copper content as the naturally-occurring nickel ore found in Ontario, Canada’s Sudbury mines. This makes it a “puritan alloy,” unique among the Monel® alloy family.
