Monel 400® is a high performance alloy of nickel and copper (with trace amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon). This alloy exhibits high strength, excellent resistance to alkaline and acidic environments, good thermal conductivity, and good ductility. Monel 400® maintains its performance and mechanical properties in temperatures from subzero to 1,000°F (538°C). It can be hardened only via cold-working.
Unique among the Monel® family of alloys, Monel 400® is considered a “puritan alloy” because it contains the same nickel and copper content as naturally-occurring ore excavated from Ontario, Canada’s Sudbury mines.
